Marlene Steele - Courtroom coverage: US v. Xu Espionage

Marlene Steele was commissioned to document the federal prosecution of Yunjan Xu, Chinese spy conspiring to obtain GE Aeronautics trade secrets. She documented the various witnesses including the arresting officer in Belgium, GE security officers, Mandarin language specialists etc.  Judge Tim Black presiding.

Connie Lynn Reilly receives Flora Giffuni Memorial Award for Pastel

Connie’s painting “Hope” won the Flora Giffuni Memorial Award for Pastel in the Grand National Exhibition of the American Artists Professional League held at the Salmagundi Club in NY City.

Debbie Anderson won First Place in the Special Category -My Corona- with her work titled “A Good Time to Reflect.”

Micah Goguen receives First Place Georgia National Fair

Micah received First Place and Purchase Award in the Georgia National Fair this year with his collage and pastel work titled “That Kind of Day.”

Ronnie Offen's paintings chosen as part of the 2021-2022 Marietta M2R Fence Gallery

The 2021-22 Marietta M2R (Mountain to River) Fence Gallery is up and running.  Placards displaying paintings by area artists are hung along fences in parks and cities through out Cobb County .  They will will be displayed at the final location until April 16.  Four of Ronnie’s paintings have been chosen for the “gallery.”  It’s a great way to have a walk in the fresh air and look at some fine art.

Margaret Dyer receives Honorable Mention at the American Impressionist Society Online Exhibition

Margaret received an Honorable Mention at the American Impressionist Society 2021 Members’ Online Exhibition.  She also recently won Best of Show at the American Impressionist Society 2021 Associate Members’ Online Exhibition.

Philadelphia Pastel Society awarded Madeleine Kelly the Constance J. McClatchy Memorial Award of Excellence for Use of Color for her abstract pastel “Flash of Memory”

Orit Reuben wins BEST IN SHOW in the Pastel Society of Central FL's Juried Exhibition

Orit Reuben has won Best of Show for “Waiting for Scraps” at the 2021 Pastel Society of Central Florida exhibit at Casselberry Art House.  She is also very excited to announce that  she joined Park Avenue Contemporary Gallery in Winter Park, Florida, beginning in July.

Anne Spivey awarded 'Honorable Mention' in Central Mass Pastel Society's 2021 "Marks of Distinction' Juried Exhibition

Anne Spivey’s “Mystical Place,” 14×11, won an Honorable Mention award in the Central Massachusetts Pastel Society’s, 2021 Marks of Distinction, juried exhibition. “Mystical Place” was one of 100 accepted pieces in this show which is available for viewing at https://www.cmpastels.org/no_t om2.html . The selection jurors were Lyn Defienbach and Teresa Saia. The Juror of Awards was Tony Allain, PS, ARSMA, PSA, MC-IAPS.

If you are new to pastel painting or want to take your skills to the next level, this class is geared towards you.  Nancy’s demos will include discussion on materials, picking a photo reference and how to composition it for optimum design.  She will cover the usefulness of value studies, the power of color temperatures and color harmony, importance of simplifying, massing, various underpainting techniques, and discussion on what makes a successful painting.

Marsha Hamby Savage featured in PleinAir Magazine's September 2021 Pastel Special Issue

It was very exciting to receive the September PleinAir Magazine with a special focus on pastels featuring “Pros’ views on using the medium en plein air!”  In addition to the feature articles written by today’s pastel masters; the magazine did a showcase of pastel artists whose works “exemplifies the range and craftsmanship possible with this versatile medium.”   Marsha Hamby Savage’s painting, “Rising to the Sun” 20×16 is included in the PASTEL SPOTLIGHT section of the magazine.
